'GO GREEN STAY CLEAN'
(Report and photographs by Nintus Magre)
Last Friday (20.06.08) the Student's Council of the Vieux Fort Technical Secondary school and the CYEN-St.Lucia(south), staged another activity in an effort to raise the awareness of the students and staff to the problem of improper disposal of trash generated in the classroom. The activity which was planed and executed with the Vice President for CYEN-St. Lucia, Nintus Magre, was called 'GO GREEN STAY CLEAN'.
The administration of the school allowed the students to attend classes in clothing other than their uniform. The 'dressed down' had to first of all be modest and becoming as well as green. Hundreds of students, teaching staff and even the vendors eagerly posed in the photo shoot which formed part of the day's agenda.
A prize was offered to the male and female student who was most creative with their green combinations. The students were also being observed as they used the classrooms and the students of cleanest most organized classroom won a prize. So they were taking care of their environment, collecting prizes and doing it all in style !! The activity generated the desired impact, as the environment was the topic of most discussions that day. Students are already asking for a repeat of the activity.

Environmental conciousness
It appears that the message of the impact of plastics on the environment is starting to reach new sectors of our society. Earlier this year local supermarket chain 'Super' J lunched the reusable shopping bag. The bag which according to company CEO Michael Chastanet, can be reused as well as recycled is a bright caribbean green appears trendy and has gone down well especially with the fashon concious ladies. The effort by the retail giant must be commended and other business establishments should become custodians of the environment and implement their own creative ideas if not emulate the former mentioned alltogether!
